ArchiMate Notation
CategoryModeling Language
ArchiMate 3.0 is a lightweight and scalable language that provides a good structuring mechanism for architecture layers, aspects, evolution and rationale. It enables stakeholders to design, assess and communicate the consequences of decisions within and between architecture domains.
Architecture Modeling Notation
Uniform Representation of Architecture Components
ArchiMate 3.0 is an open, independent modeling language that enables Enterprise Architects to describe, analyze and visualize the relationships among architecture domains in a consistent and unambiguous way.
Architecture diagrams are formal descriptions of an information system, organized in a way that supports reasoning about the structural and behavioural properties of the system and its evolution. To provide a uniform representation of architecture diagrams, The Open Group has developed an ArchiMate notation, offering an integrated approach for describing different architecture layers and their common components.
Similar to architectural drawing conventions in building construction, the ArchiMate specification offers a common language for describing the delivery and operation of business processes, organizational structures, information flows, enterprise systems and physical devices. Their elements are mapped to architecture layers (Strategy, Business, Application, Technology and Implementation) and aspect categories.
