Distributed Backup Infrastructure

ClientRetail Pharmacy Chain

Legacy technologies used for backups of retail store and distribution centre systems are outdated and inconsistent. A distributed storage grid currently managing corporate backups is extended to accommodate the entire coast-to-coast retail network.

Case Study Overview

Initial State

Computing systems used by the distribution centres and retail stores operated by the pharmacy chain are not consistently backed up, running a risk of data loss.

Target State

The existing infrastructure comprised of centrally-managed backup grids is upgraded and modified to accommodate remote locations distributed across the country.

The modernized backup infrastructure provides higher storage capacity, better network utilization and data deduplication, allowing to optimize the congestion of backup traffic. Remote server images and specific file shares are backed up based on the new schedule better aligned with facility/store operation hours and other system management tasks performed across the network, with minimum data sent across the network.
